France as Rails World 2024 has come to an end. I would like to talk a bit about the applications that we used during the conference. First of all, we had the, the Rails World Agenda application, and we also had an instance of campfire. So the agenda application was actually really cool. We had the full agenda of all the events by date, and if you clicked on a specific, uh, uh, event, you could see the details of the event. You could click on the speaker and see if he's taking part in any other, uh, talks during the conference. You could, uh, see his socials and, uh, for future events, you could add them to bookmarks. So you see, you kind of add them to a bookmark or to your schedule. And if you add an event to your schedule, then you will get a notification about the upcoming event, 10 minutes before the event starts. So it'll be a push notification. You would also have, uh, access to your profile where you would have a QR code and, uh, your social links. And, uh, the beautiful thing about this application that it was developed, uh, uh, and released as an open source application by TELUS Labs. So, um, it, uh, looks like a gift for the whole community. If you are creating an event and you need an agenda, you don't have to reinvent the wheel and, uh, create a new application, you could possibly just reuse this, uh, application. Actually, I recommend you to have a look at the application, see how it is built, and, uh, specifically you could be very interested in see how the push notifications are implemented. Let's also have a look at this application from mobile. So you see I am not sent in here and there is no food, food navigation. We do have it here. So, uh, login in, we have the agenda. Everything is beautifully responsive. The NEV B is stick to the bottom, and you see it's opened in a web browser, so it kind of doesn't look, uh, really cool. Let's, uh, open as A-P-W-A-I will edit to the home screen. Again, both apps, uh, were meant to be used as PWAs both, uh, agenda, application and the campfire. So here I've opened it as a pwa and it looks and feels much better. I don't have it as a browser tab, I have it as a separate, uh, instance, uh, on my phone I have it, uh, as an icon on the phone, so it looks good. Now, uh, if I go to my profile page, I also get this, uh, uh, prompt to enable push notifications. I will allow it, but again, uh, I have no way to reproduce it right now getting a notification because that set up to the s 10 minutes before, uh, talk in your schedule. So again, it's a wonderful application and you can, uh, have a look at the Source code at Teles Labs slash Rails world. The second application that you should have already heard about is mfi. So it was developed by, uh, three seven signals. And, uh, you can purchase access to the source code, uh, at advanced com slash mfi. And, uh, it's wonderful code base to learn from, from the makers of, uh, rails itself. And, uh, here I'm logged in, uh, to campfire. In the web, I have, uh, a list of channels like in Slack or Discord. You would have different channels and you can, uh, send the direct messages to, uh, users. You can upload photos, you can react the photos with the text, you can react with the emojis. Looks nice. And, uh, let's try, uh, actually doing direct messages between two users. So here I'm logged in as myself and, uh, in the phone, I will log in as, uh, uh, another user. Now here I have the login screen. I will actually also add it, uh, as, uh, PWA. So add into the home screen. Here are the two PWAs that we use at Trails World. Let's open the campfire application. I will sign in. Okay, so I sent in, and you see I have this prompt to, uh, I think enable notifications. I click on it. I have this, uh, button to allow notifications. Okay, looks good. Let's now send a private message. I can, uh, select one of the users from this scrollable list, or I can, uh, search a user by a name. I'm going to select myself and send a message. So let's say hello. And you see, uh, the other user has this popup that, uh, there's an new on Android message from this user. I open it, you see I'm typing here. And, uh, on the phone, the other user sees that the, the other user is typing a message. So I think it's a really wonderful, uh, animation to, to give the users a sense of anticipation. Okay, so looks, uh, quite cool. Now, um, let's try, uh, downloading this one as a desktop application. So going to file, I will, uh, click add to doc. Actually, another thing that Basem does well, uh, with, uh, uh, kfi is it, uh, gives explanations. It gives instructions on how to install it as a web app. So you see click on file, click add to doc, click on file, click add to Doc. Okay, add, you see I've added Rails via as a PWA on my, uh, computer. I click on it. You see the offers me to enable, uh, notifications on the computer. Okay, now, here again, I will enable notifications and let me send a message. And you see I have this, uh, notifications counter showing up. So, uh, it's quite neat. And, uh, yeah, that's, uh, basically it. Uh, I'm really happy that, uh, like a thousand result attendee had the, uh, chance to experience, uh, PWAs. Everybody had them on, uh, both apps on the phones. Everybody was getting push notifications. And, uh, again, there's just trails apps that, uh, uh, are built, uh, to be mobile, uh, responsive and friendly. Both, uh, use push notifications, uh, very well. And, uh, you should also build an application that, uh, is responsive, looks good on mobile, that can be downloaded as a PWA, and that has push notifications. Rails 8.1 should, uh, actually have this, uh, action notification, I think is the name, uh, new Edition that, uh, should make, uh, adding, uh, native notifications easier.
